Yoshiki Classical- San Francisco Report (Sort of)
Bear with me, I can’t remember the entire setlist, or the order in which everything happened, I just know it happened.
First thing’s first, we arrived at the symphony hall at around 5:30, doors wouldn’t open until 6:30 so we went and found something to eat. When we got back to the hall again it was around 6:15 ish and went inside, they were still not letting people into their seats. I got to meet and talk to other X fans, that’s always fun.
Onto the actual show, it started on time (Surprise!) around 7:30 the lights turned off and the Sextet walked on stage and began tuning their instruments. Shortly after, Yoshiki walked on stage from my right side (the stage’s left) and he was met by loud clapping and cheers from the crowd that consisted of mostly X fans. He went straight to his piano and began the show with Forever Love.
The audience silenced instantly, everyone was very respectful. I would also like to note that there was people of all age groups, which is something I still find amazing; the influence X still has…and of course how much Yoshiki has grown in the classical music world recently. ANYWAY, after the short Forever Love improv he gave a short MC, thanking people and then introducing the Golden Globe theme which he proceeded to play.
The next performance was Rosa, a Violet UK song and it was sung by Katie. Rosa is my favorite Violet UK song so I cried a little, it was performed so nicely, she has such a great voice.
After that he began another piece that suddenly morphed into I.V. and then…surprise .0./ we hear “In the rain…” and instantly the audience started cheering. “I’m calling you dear…” by then everyone was screaming Toshi’s name, and the audience only grew louder when he finally stepped out. He sang the rest of the intro before they stopped for an M.C and joked around a bit about being in X and being friends for so long, etc. They performed the English version of Tears and when that was over it was time for the intermission.
After intermission, the sextet (and YES, he confirmed it there, he added two violinist to his quartet so that he could call them Yoshiki SEXtet.) stepped out for tuning again.
They then began playing Amethyst (without Yoshiki) it was a beautiful performance, they were all so great. He came out after and began the next song…and this is where you have to forgive me because he started playing back to back and I know what he performed but I don’t remember in what order.
He played a rendition of a Chekovski piece (is that how you spell it, again sorry.)
He also played Anniversary, Rose of Pain, Kurenai (with an awesome violin piece), Art of Life, and some other classical renditions of X songs.
He also performed his new song for Saint Seiya, Hero with Katie again.
Marc Benioff (he posted an instagram pic with him, idk he’s some big shot) and his family were there, not too far from where I was sitting, and Yoshiki gave them a shout out, I think it was his mother’s birthday, or mother in law —something like that— and Yoshiki played happy birthday to her, which was really sweet.
Sometime between all of that he paused for a longer MC, this is where it gets very emotional.
"Cherish the people you love, and appreciate that they are still with you, every moment, while you still can…" Where his words (what I can remember, in brief) during a speech he gave about hide, Taiji and his father. It was very sad and very quiet and his voice cracked, I was tearing up already.
He said all this and said “this is a song I wrote for hide…” After those words I knew it would be Without You, and sure enough when that first note struck, a silence fell over the crowd, the type of angst filled silence where you knew everyone was thinking the same thing and everyone was just stuck between awe and tears. A video began rolling showing footage of hide, and X performances along with Yoshiki’s baby pics with his dad. By this point I was wiping my eyes, hoping I didn’t look like the Winter Soldier. I could hear people around me sniffling and it was just kind of painful, but also very beautiful.
At some point after that Yoshiki called Toshi back out to announce an X Japan performance at Madison Square Garden, so there’s a lot of speculation going around of a possible second X tour (hopes so hard).
The last song was, of course, Endless Rain.
Yoshiki tweeted the day before that we don’t sing along during the song, only to sing when the violins stopped.
The audience was very respectful of this as well, and everyone was quiet throughout the whole song. During the crescendo the spotlights turned to the ground and a single white light was lit onto a spinning disc ball and there were suddenly a ton of dancing lights reflecting all over the hall, it was kind of magical (as cheesy at that sounds). The audience gasped and everyone was in awe, kind of staring dumbly at the ceiling ( me too, tbh). And then at Yoshiki’s queue we began singing the chorus. It sounded like something that was rehearsed, it was executed so perfectly that even the people who were there not knowing of X were surprised and kind of like “Woaaah, was this practiced, were they hired to sing?” ..lol, nope it’s just part of being an X fan…it’s /the/ song.
With that the concert ended and Yoshiki and Toshi came back out and bowed and took pictures of/with the crowd.
iPhone cameras are not the best, sorry
After this I met up with friends and we took some pics and kind of fooled around and fangirled for a bit. Between our fangirling we didn’t notice that the second violinist of the sextet was right outside, she was with her parents and there was no one else there. We got to talk to her, told her how amazing the show was, she was shocked that we all sort of “OMG YOURE THE VIOLINIST WAAHH” at her, but she was super chill and thanked us all and said that it was really fun to tour with him.
And with that we left the venue and waited by the back exit, you can read about that here.

Almost waited for three hours outside the venue, everyone kept saying “He’s gone, he left hours ago, etc.”
But we didn’t budge, and we waited, and sure enough they were lying, and then there he was.
He came out he was smiling and even though his manager and guards were trying to pull him away he insisted for them to let him go saying “It’s okay, it’s alright…let me sign these.”
This is why I love him.
I never believed the staff when they said he was gone, I know he would never just leave fans hanging, especially after knowing how long they wait for him.
The moment was brief, and sure enough I got shoved to the very back despite being there first, but I still got pictures and someone pushed me towards him before pushing me away.
As always, it’s worth the wait, and next time for sure I will get a picture with him, I get closer every time.

It was the same set list as the one in #CostaMesa.. except #ToshIくん sang #Tears in English♥️ He sang it so~ beautifully.. He actually sang a bit of I.V. too when he was making an appearance. Yoshiki looked much much more relaxed tonight ♥️(*^^*) He seemed so~~ happy being with ToshIくん
When Yoshiki asked if ToshI wanted to do a song, he replied, “just one song?!” (≧∇≦)Yoshiki replied, “I have a whole show to do.” (Something like that.)
Yoshiki introduced his best friend, Mr. Benioff to the crowd, and he talked about the day he spent some time with him, his wife & his mother. His mother cooked him some dinner, and Yoshiki thanked her on stage. He talked about how he had to deal with the sun when he was on the island with them as he referred himself “Vampire-ish” (≧∇≦)
It was Mr. Benioff’s mother’s birthday on 4/28, and Yoshiki said he had a gift for her. He played Happy Birthday song for her and the screen on stage showed a Happy Birthday message for her. Yoshiki then looked for her who was sitting in the 1st row and hugged her.
I like when Yoshiki said.. “Hide was our guitarist; he is still our guitarist.” ❤️*__* When he dedicated the song (Without You) to him, Taiji and to his father..
Yoshiki talked about how we take everything for granted.. He told us to love people we care before it’s too late..
Then the time came.. Yoshiki made an announcement that Xjapan will play the MADISON SQUARE GARDEN on October 11th *\(^o^)/* I screamed~~~!!!!!! So Yoshiki called ToshI back and said something like.. “so, it’s Madison Square Garden! What are we going to do~~?!?!” They are playful together and talking about how Japanese people pronounce Madison Square Garden.. (≧∇≦)
Yoshiki calls his string team, “Yoshiki Sextet” as there are 6 of them(≧∇≦)
I think the show was VERY successful ♥️(*^^*) There was unprecedented standing O lasting for a long time. And at the end, Yoshiki did selfie with us (audience) in his back ♥️
What made me happy - beside #MadisonSquareGarden (omgg~) was the fact that Yoshiki was smiling a lot tonight.. (although he cried too) ♥️
After the show, we waited for Yoshiki to come out.. (Almost 3 hrs!) HERE’S A VIDEO TAKEN BY @mkn24gracias ❥ youtu.be/0z5FGAAUujU You see how sweet Yoshiki is~~ ❤️
After the show, Yoshiki went out for dinner with ToshIくん ஐ(●˘͈ ᵕ˘͈
