Йошики вчера принял участие в церемонии награждения «Золотой Глобус» 2012.
Композиция Йошики не только обрамляла событие в качестве музыки открытия и закрытия, но и звучала много раз в течении вечера, между награждениями и в качестве фоновой музыки к комментариям. А в заключительных словах, под бурные аплодисменты, его представили как "интернационального артиста", композитора темы для нынешней церемонии, в полной мере отдав должное его таланту и значимости/влиянию как художника. Также фигурировал собственный комментарий Йошики, что это большая честь для него.
Йошики сидел за одним столом с такими артистами как Антонио Бандерас и Дженифер Лопес, а другие знакомые, как Морган Фриман, подходили поздороваться.

читать дальшеLike Anchorman’s Ron Burgundy, Yoshiki is kind of a big deal. It was only a matter of time until Hollywood summoned the X Japan maestro and multi-instrumentalist for something loftier than writing music for the Saw franchise (though X’s “I.V.” was arguably Saw IV’s shining moment). Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) President Dr. Aida Takia-O’Reilly—herself a native Egyptian—reached out to Yoshiki shortly after being instated in 2011. She’d hoped he would compose this year’s Golden Globes theme song and help send a message of global inclusion to the ceremony’s audience.
Naturally, Yoshiki embraced the opportunity as both a privilege and creative challenge, and a chance to continue pursuing his quest to make music that affects people from ocean to ocean. Not that it was easy. (Wrangling musicians and engineers during the holidays can be a logistical nightmare.) But as he explains below in his latest interview with Kenny Herzog (who spoke to the philanthropic hard-rock icon just after last summer’s tragic earthquake in Japan), Yoshiki is confident he delivered a song that’s fittingly grand but will make his worldwide fans no less X-static.
You just turned the Golden Globes theme into the HFPA this week. For all your and X Japan’s fans, how would you describe what they can expect?
You can hear a Yoshiki melody in it, then also there’s an element of classical music and an element of rock. I combined those together.
Did you consult songs from years past or just do your own thing?
I watched some DVDs of several years of the Golden Globes. Also, I was there last year, so I know what kind of vibe [they need].
Also, the president of HFPA gave me some keywords, like it needs to be Hollywood, needs to be prestigious, needs to be edgy.
So I listened to all those words carefully, digested in my head and then composed the song.
Is it a song you feel kicks ass beyond that grandeur and prestige?
I’ve never really done this kind of instrumental piece with an orchestra and a band together.
When I composed for the Japanese emperor, it was kind of a concerto. When I composed for the World Expo [in 2005], it had pop vibes too, but kind of a classical base.
This is a little more rock ‘n’ roll, but with classical in it. I’m proud of this song. It’s a totally addictive melody. I wanted to come up with something very catchy and still have some kind of depth.
Your creative process was immediately impacted after last year’s earthquake in Japan. Did any of the emotion from that find its way into the Globes song?
I think that kind of thing is still in me. It’s always in me, so no matter what song I write. I don’t think I can write a 100 percent happy song. I wouldn’t call it sadness, but something’s in it always. That element is always in me and then every single song I write.
Is this collaboration with the Globes the start of a possible next path for you after it becomes physically impractical to tour with X?
[Laughs] I don’t know, we’ll see. When I got this call, I was pretty surprised. But when I was writing the song, I kind of understood why I was asked to do it, because I have both backgrounds—classical and rock. At the same time, I don’t believe in shortcuts.
You have to work hard to get there, so I’m really lucky to be able to do this kind of job, but going to the next step, I just have to keep working hard… The next thing after this is just complete the X Japan album.
I’ve been asked to be music director for a certain film. I can’t say the name, but I kept saying, “I need to finish X Japan album, can I do it after?” But [the Globes] is the only one [where] I said, “I would love to do this.” But I will do the X Japan album right after.
Was writing and composing the Globes theme a process you actually enjoyed?
I loved the process and everything. It was just kind of challenging. Not the composition; the hardest part was I just finished a world tour and had to do a few appearances, so I had to compose this song during the holidays. This song has drums, bass and guitar, a big orchestra and also piano. I played everything except orchestra, but it’s hard to get all those people Christmas season or New Year’s. Also, those engineers and all that staff.
Also, [I had to] try to win over this pressure. There are so many big names in Hollywood, so I didn’t want to disappoint all these people who gave me this opportunity. I had confidence at the same time [that] I’m gonna create a great song, something only I can do.
Are you worried that Ricky Gervais will tease you or the song at all during his opening monologue?
It’s gonna be an honor to even get mentioned. [Laughs] I was there last year, and as I was eating and drinking, I had to ask my friend, “Did he just say that? Is he allowed to say it?” Towards the end of the show I started laughing. So, if he even mentioned one word, good or bad, I’d be honored.

“My inspiration was Hollywood,” Yoshiki tells THR. “I tried to combine the old glamour and the flashy Hollywood so the piece has some classical elements and a rock vibe as well.”
Working out of sound studios in Los Angeles and Tokyo, Yoshiki gathered a 35-piece orchestra along with a slew of engineers and technicians for a month of recording. “It was the holiday season, so it took longer and was a little harder to gather all those people,” he says. That may explain why Yoshiki ended up playing so many instruments himself. “I played everything -- drums, bass, guitar, and piano.”
His time commitment to working on the Globes theme also ended up sidetracking X Japan's long-anticipated English-language album. Says Yoshiki: “It’s 90 percent done. Several things happened -- we just finished the world tour in mid-November and then the Golden Globes opportunity came up and I had to do it. It will be released in 2012 for sure.”
Until then, fans can look forward to seeing Yoshiki in the flesh as a Golden Globes attendee. Which movie is he rooting for? “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was very, very interesting,” he says. “I think the music in the movie was excellent. I was there last year at the Golden Globes when [Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross] were nominated for The Social Network. It was great that they won.”

Adam Lawton: How did you get involved with writing the theme for the 2012 Golden Globes?
Yoshiki: I had been invited to attend the Golden Globes last year. I got to know some of the people in the HFPA and we all became friends. After a few meetings during the summer time, the President of the HFPA asked me if I would be interested in writing the theme song for the Golden Globes. I was very delighted to be asked.
AL: When you a write a piece like this what do feel is the hardest part of the process?
Yoshiki: I think the hardest part is overcoming the pressure of each project. I have written for large Japanese events however this is my first time writing for something that is based outside of Asia. I had gotten some information from the people at the HFPA that they wanted the piece to be prestigious with touches of Hollywood. I tried to listen to everyone’s ideas and digest them all while writing the piece.
AL: What can you tell us about your comic book character “Blood Red Dragon”?
Yoshiki: I have been working with Stan Lee and Todd McFarlane on that project. Stan Lee is pretty much the brain behind the project. They will often show me ideas and I give them some input as to whether I think it’s a good idea or not. Stan made me a superhero, which is something he is very good at!
AL: How did the idea for the character come about?
Yoshiki: I had met Stan at a charity event. I introduced myself by telling him I was a rock star and he told me he creates superheroes. That’s really how everything started. Stan is just so big and he has created so many great characters.
AL: With X Japan starting to venture outside of Asia what do you think is the hardest part about breaking into a new market such as here in the United States?
Yoshiki: The hardest part is that no Asian act/rock band has been to other markets. People tend to have a stereotype because of this. They often think we can’t make it. We have to convince them that nothing is impossible. We have to work and keep on rocking to convince people. There really is no easy way to become popular or known when going to a new area. X Japan is pretty lucky because we have had quite a bit of Japanese press. There are also a lot of people around the world who are interested in Japanese culture and they have found are music. We get immediate response from our fans around the world however, in order to take things to the next level you have to keep touring and rocking!
AL: You perform both classical and rock music. Is there one genre you prefer over the other?
Yoshiki: Going back and forth between rock and classical music I think keeps me sane. I think if you listen to too much rock you will go insane and vice versa. (Laughs) I enjoy going back and forth between the two.
AL: Do you have any other projects coming up this year?
Yoshiki: X Japan should have a new album out this year. It is about 90% done however I had to stop work on it in order to focus on the Golden Globes. Once I am done with everything for the Golden Globes we will start recording the album. I also have my solo project Violet UK and I would like to finish an album for that as well. When both of those are completed I plan to start touring again. We would like to be able tour North America extensively in the coming year.

X Japan Leader Yoshiki Pens New Golden Globes Themeby Phil Gallo, L.A. To create a new theme for the Golden Globes telecast, Yoshiki, leader of the Japanese rock group X Japan, used a piano concerto he wrote 13 years ago to celebrate the Emperor of Japan's reign as a source of inspiration. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association responded with notes.
"They asked me to make it more edgy so I added guitar, bass and drums," Yoshiki tells Billboard.com.

Yoshiki and the president of the HFPA, Aida Takla-O'Reilly, began discussing the theme in the summer, but a 15-country tour by X Japan meant he could not get started until late November. He started the recording in Los Angeles, recorded a 34-piece string section and piano in Tokyo and then returned to Los Angeles to finish the piece.
When he was finished, the piece ran seven to eight minutes; the HFPA, which wanted a theme for the organization, said they only needed two or 2-1/2 minutes.
"I told them they could cut anywhere," Yoshiki says.
Now 46, Yoshiki began studying classical piano at age 4 and started X Japan as a seed metal band in the late 1980s. As the band caught on, their music became more mainstream rock and Yoshiki continued to write classical works as side projects. He was musical director for the 2005 World Expo, composing its theme song and conducting the orchestra at the opening ceremonies and co-produced his own classical album with Sir George Martin that was recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
He is currently wrapping up X Japan's first English language project, an album that is split 50/50 between older songs and new material, 95 percent of it sung in English, much as they did while on their recent world tour. EMI will distribute the album.
"It's 90 percent done and it will be finished in the next several weeks," he says. "It's for the international market -- we've never done that."

This year, the annual award show will feature a theme song composed by none other than the seminal Japanese rock band's founder and drummer, Yoshiki.
Yoshiki got a call about the gig while he was touring in Asia last fall, and the offer became official when he returned to L.A. at the end of November. He spent about ten days thinking about what he was going to do for the piece, "a few days" to compose it and two weeks to record.
The theme song, which was recorded in Japan and Los Angeles, features a 35-piece string section and several percussionists. Yoshiki played drums, piano, bass and guitar on the track.
"During the holiday season, it was so hard to get together musicians," he says over the phone.
Yoshiki is no stranger to composition. A classically trained musician, he regularly incorporates orchestral influences into X Japan's work. He also composed a piano concerto for the Emperor of Japan as well as the theme song for the 2005 World Expo. Back in 2001, he worked with Sir George Martin and the London Philharmonic Orchestra on the album Yoshiki Presents Eternal Melody.
The Golden Globes theme, however, is different from Yoshiki's previous work and it presented its own challenges.
"When I wrote for the Japanese Emperor, it was a piano concerto, so it was just strings and piano," he explains, adding that a theme for the award show needed "a party vibe to it."
"Combining classical music and the rock vibe was kind of a challenge," he continues.
There were the time constraints as well. Yoshiki's original piece clocked in at about eight minutes. Then he spoke with the production team, who were thinking of a piece of music that was closer to two minutes in length. Ultimately, Yoshiki recorded just under four minutes of music.
And, for those wondering which of this year's Golden Globes nominees has Yoshiki excited, he's a fan of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Rooney Mara is nominated in the Best Actress category.
Yoshiki's kept busy since I first met him on the set for the "Jade" music video two years ago. X Japan toured the U.S. for the first time in 2010 and then spent a chunk of last year on a world tour. In 2011, he launched a comic book series with none other than Stan Lee and worked on raising funds for earthquake and tsunami relief in Japan. He also made it into L.A. Weekly's Best of L.A. People issue.
As for what's next, Yoshiki says, "I would like to rest for at least a few days."
He adds, "Then I want to finish X Japan's next album and go from there. Maybe start touring again."
There's no official release date in sight for X Japan's next album right now.
"My publicist, manager and agent told me I have to finish it first before deciding to release it," he says with a laugh.

Nancy was there as Golden Globe officials revealed exclusively to ET that Madonna would present at the glamorous ceremony on Sunday.
One of the most talked about aspects of this year's Golden Globes is the return of sharp-tongued host Ricky Gervais. Nancy asked the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Dr. Aida Takla O'Reilly, about whether guests have anything to worry about with Gervais in control of the show.
Nancy also caught up with Japanese musician Yoshiki Hayashi, who composed the theme song for this year's Golden Globe Awards and explains his feelings on being chosen for the hour.
Among the facts unveiled to ET about this year's ceremony: 325 feet of red carpet -- longer than a football field -- will be utilized; the ballroom will house 8,000 square feet of blue carpet and include an LED fixture with 5,000 blue bulbs; 9,000 champagne glasses will be waiting to quench the thirst of the attendees.
